Napster Documentary

 Cool Documentary is from Alex Winter - who starred in Bill and Teds movies with Keanu Reeves

But Bill and Ted never saw anything as cool as Winter's documentary Downloaded: The Digital Revolution, which receives its world premiere March 10 at the interactive/music/film South by Southwest Festival in Austin. It tells how two teenagers, Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker, reinvented the music industry, got crushed and still managed to get rich with such game-changers as Facebook and Spotify. 

Downloaded is about the epochal file-sharing service Napster, dreamed up in 1999, when Fanning was a college dropout living in the closet of his uncle's office.

Winter's film might remind people of the forgotten fact that it was Napster that inspired the first social networking giant Friendster, which Facebook supplanted. Talking Movies: Catcher in the Rye Movie?

Oh wow, is there a possibility? I read from the Telegraph UK...

JD Salinger always insisted The Catcher in the Rye was "unactable" and refused to let Hollywood anywhere near his masterpiece. But six months after his death, producers believe their chances of landing film rights to The Catcher in The Rye, considered the "holy grail" of scripts, are improving and a movie could be on the horizon.

Salinger maintained an intractable grip over the book during his lifetime and his publishers have insisted the rights are still not for sale. I suggest read the whole article.

Young stars of yester years (now they're old) dying to play Holden Caulfield. I wonder who best to pay the part...

I'm interested to see.. but I don't think movie will ever replace the book.. cos the book will always be better.

I just hope I don't have to puke watching the movie if there is one. He he.. in Caulfield mode.

Talking Movies: The Godfather

Last Tuesday HBO showed The Godfather trilogy. Original and the sequel. I didn't like part three.

Godfather movie mafia mobster gangster awesome. One of the best films ever made.

The marathon started 4 in the morning. I actually waited for it. The I watched the second part around 7 but I was getting sleepy already but still I watched about an hour. I ignored part three cos I was sleepy when I woke up and turned on the telly.. Andy Garcia was blabbing. Hehe.

In the original Godfather, Al Pacino who played Michael Corleone, looks like Robert Downey Jr. If ever they make a remake, I want Downey (or Depp?) to play that role. They're probably too old for the part anyway and I sincerely doubt they will ever consider to do remake of a classic.

I'll see what on' the telly now. Maybe a classic again :D

She's so Square

I don't get it. What's with Twilight or New Moon? I don't get the craze at all. I've never read the book nor seen the movie nor am I planning to see future ones. I mentioned to my sister that I'm not and have never been interested in the book (and movies) tied with the craziness and she said I'm baduy ( corny or square). I mean eww! It's not the type I'd read or watch. My sister who's older than I am..she likes Gossip Girls and watches The Hills (another eww for me),.I've never watched those show. She's into Rob Pattinson too. O..kay he's cute..but cute is term one uses for....err, toy dog? Ha ha. Hey I'm sorry. The cutie is not my type. Again, I just don't get it.

I prefer reading books books like How Late It Was, How Late or the Giver or The Things They Carried. Mad Men is a favorite and I think Jon Hamm is just so suave and gorgeous.

So when my sister told to me, I'm so baduy. I just nodded. Hell, it's hip to be square.

Brings me to a halt

Last night and for the nth time already, I watched again my favorite movie.

Freedom, Justice and theTruth

Maybe it's because I saw an earlier film about injustice to the 4 Irish men falsely accused of being IRA terrorist and languished in jail for 15 years (yes it only a film but it's a true to life account of locking innocent people in jail), but I do firmly believed and I have and I know and it is fact that there are really innocent suspects serving life imprisonment or even death penalty.

Lawyers and those advocating freedom of the innocent need to pursue the case. Keep digging, keep reading, keep going over and over and as many times as possible with all the evidence. You know there's bound to be inconsistencies. There might be loopholes. If one has to prove the innocence of wrongly accused convicted person, keep on going. Decades spent in prison for a crime an innocent person didn't commit should get justice

Life is... Stranger than Fiction

If Will Ferrell gets nominated for an Oscar......eh.

Read some article he's good. I'm waiting for the movie to be shown. There seems to be Oscar buzz for comedian Will Ferrell for his role as the IRS man who is the subject of novelist trying to complete her book and narrating and he hears her voice which affects his life, work, love and yes, even death. It's comedy but serious comedy.

Jim Carrey probably mumbling. Hmm, I should've had that role. Hah.

Anyway...nothing to blog about so.... Pirates of the Caribbean 2 washing away all the competition. Hehe. It's a box office summer hit! I haven't seen the first one so I don't really care(besides, the only Johnny Depp films I liked were Donnie Brasco and Sleepy Hollow). The movie was shown same day as was A Scanner Darkly (it was only shown though in select cities). Now that's movie I wanna see.

It's a film directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Slackers, Waking life...etc) based on the 1977 sci-fi novel by Philip K. Dick. He used the rotoscope technique as he did with the Waking Life film several years ago. The effect really is like fluid dreamy like animation. That and the story itself about drug, called the Substance D and the paranoia that is induced by it. The movie had favorable good reviews from critics

It may seem odd in this context to talk about performances, but the actors, rotoscoped though they may be, are phenomenal -CSM

The brilliance of "A Scanner Darkly" is how it suggests, without bombast or fanfare, the ways in which the real world has come to resemble the dark world of comic books - LATimes

Rotoscoping makes certain sense for a film about cognitive dissonance and alternative realities, though both the vocal and gestural performances by Mr. Reeves, Mr. Harrelson and, in particular, the wonderful Mr. Downey make me wish that we were watching them in live action -NYTimes

I think the film is not for everybody. "Either you're on it, or you're not'' to quote(R.D Jr's ?) line in the film. Hehee. But but of course, ulitmately the moviegoer will be the ones to decide. Critics review is just there to help guide.....okay maybe influence(?) somewhat. Hehe.

I don't care about about Da Vinci Code

There's still a question mark whether the movie will be shown here or not.

Censor here has yet to grant it a release permit despite a slated opening date of May 18. "We will decide on the permit based on whether the film attacks a religion, creed or doctrine, and if it defames a person living or dead," the censor, Consoliza Laguardia, told local radio on Monday.

Personally I could care less. I haven't read the book.

I know it's a best seller. Millions of people read it (hence the excitement over the movie, I guess). My sister has the book here. Karl even bought one as well. Even my friends (few that I have) who've read it says it's exciting and controversial. Still it doesn't interest me. Jesus having an affair with Mary Magdalene and siring a child and all that. Heh. Riiiight! it's a work of fiction you know.

Lets and wait and see if the movie will be shown here. I think SM cinemas will not show if it's 18 and above. SM has the most number of cinemas here. But their patrons are mostly C and D crowd.

You know what, I thinkI'm more interested about A Scanner Darkly. One of the most anticipated summer movies.

Wishing on another lucky star

I like the movie Permanent Record (one of the earlier films of Keanu Reeves along with Rivers Edge..and who says he can't act?!?!.. a lot! haha) it's one of those obscure sleeper movies that hardly anybody paid attention back then. It deals with teen life and how one deals with suicide. I've seen it a number times already. I wanna have the dvd of the movie and also Rivers Edge.

I'm done. I'll just blog when I have something to blog.

Gory Hostel Movie

Hot hot heat. Holy crap! It's practically summer already. Just couple of weeks more and it will be official. I wanna write something long and crappy and something quixotically boring about my life but my diary site is gone which is bummer cos that's where I blab about me, myself and my aesthetic crap. My journal of thoughts. My day by day existence(sp?). I hope they fix that site AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Saw the movie Hostel and that was so fucking gory! Blood gory body parts spilling all over-eye gouching arm breaking knee bending heel cracking finger cutting goriness! I sat throughout the duration of the movie covering my face not because it was scary but because of the blood and yucky cutting body parts thing. Eww.

The Star Wars Experience

Wow. The galaxy far far away left me wanting more of the same. Watched Star Wars Episode III earlier in the wee hours of the morning. All the screening times were full last night so had to watch the 12:45 instead. There was even a 1:120 a.m as well just to acommodate the many who weren't able to reserved a ticket because cos the seatings were all full. Left past 3 in the morning wanting a lightsaber sword. I loved the movie. Light saber battles and galaxy shots were all fantastic. The reviews were right, this Star Wars probably the best of them all. I guess. I can't remember the previous ones though so maybe that's why. I wanna see the movie again.

Btw, I still dunno what Sith is..maybe the Chancellor. Hehe.

Thumbs Up (reviews) For The Galaxy Far Far Away

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith got a very good review from NYTimes.

I'm hoping to see the film this weekend. Opening day tomorrow or tonight. I'm not sure but it's this week. Hmm, I wonder are the Siths. I wanna know. Yeah, gotta watch the movie.

Shattered Lies

Just finished watching the film Shattered Glass and I enjoyed the movie. (yeah, after two years they finally showed it here in the Philippines). The film is based on the life Stephen Glass (played by Hayden Christensen) and his fabricated articles for The New Republic .

I somehow could relate to the office politics and the everyday going ons of running a newspaper. Not that I'm working for one but that my mom had been a journalist and in the media even before I was born. During the many years o of her career as a columnist/reporter and eventually becoming editor, I've seen some dirty politicking by the company she worked for and the people appointed by the government (newspaper was a sequestered one). My mom stayed true loyal until office politics drove her out of her position. She's one of the best well respected by her peers in the media business. Greed and jealousy by some of the higher ups in the paper she worked pushed her out of her job but she recovered and eventually worked for one of the Metro's popular broadsheet until her death

Show me some Passion!

On ash Wednesday(in the US) the most awaited and anticpated film of the year opens and amidst the debate and controversy a lot of people flocked the movie theaters to see what the fuzz is all about.

Yeppers.. blogged about the movie about 2 or 3 times(since last year, search the archives if you must) already and now it's showing. AndI wonder if the board censors here would allow the movie to be shown(owing to the fact that it's violent some say). Being the only Catholic country in Asia, I bet the religious sect here would have something to say about the film!

Controversial movie?

A new film by Mel Gibson, to be released next year, depicts Jesus' last few hours. Jews and Catholics are raising concerns about its potential for stoking anti-Semitism....
"My hope is that this movie has a ... message of tremendous courage and sacrifice [and] that it will affect people on a profound level and somehow change them," he recently told a Christian website CSM has more.

A movie depicting God and life and passion and death resurrection have been a lot of times by other filmakers..hmmm..lets us watch next year and see why this one has buzz of controversy

Matrix Reloaded Mania

Hehehee..I haven't bought a copy of Time Magazine..but I will when my mom gives me money. MATRIX is just really really awesome cool hi tech visual effects movie. And then some of the other action movies kinda copied that famous kicking thing on the wall kinda action. Plus, I do like the star Keanu Reeves hehehe. FYI..in 1998 we were in Sydney when they were filming the movie and almost saw him face to face. Dang.. hehe. Anyhow, back then, no one would've known it'll be that big a movie..hehehe..

BTW, the list of songs and the bands in the Soundtrack are cool too :p

Love in time of war
I'm watching Pearl Harbor on Star Movie(cable channel). I dunno if it's a love story or a war story but I'm leaning towards the latter with the love stuff as subplot..maybe it's the other way around but in any case, watching it right now and the romantic scenes soo ..well, romantic..even if a bit too melodramatic cheeziness..and OMG, the scene right now is when Evelyn saw Rafe after learning the he's not dead... but like she's having an affair with danny, rafes bestfriend..yay!!! Geez, it dawned on him..omg. I'll blog later..teeeehee.

A Hogwarts Time

Just arrived home after watching Harry Potter movie at Greenbelt with m family and It was funny. Ron is funny! Hehe. My favorite part, the quidditch match. Spectacularly exciting. Can't wait for the next installment of the movie.
